Shebeshxt to spend festive weekend behind bars

Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke, was reportedly lined up for several back-to-back festive-season bookings, will not take to the stage at any of those events after being denied bail by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. His case has been postponed to 18 February 2026, meaning he will remain behind bars throughout the busy entertainment period.

The controversial rapper — widely recognised for his topless performances — had hoped to secure bail ahead of the festive rush, which traditionally kicks off around 16 December and carries through to New Year’s Eve. However, the court took a different view.

During the bail hearing, the prosecution presented a detailed record of multiple pending violent-crime charges and several past convictions, including previous attempted murder cases dating back as far as 2017. Prosecutors argued that releasing him on bail would pose a risk to public safety and undermine the justice process.

After weighing the arguments, the court denied bail, ordering that the 30-year-old musician be remanded in custody until his next appearance on February 17, 2026
