Sekgotha back on his feet as Siwelele secure his signature

Less than six months after being discharged from the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre in Segwashi village outside Polokwane, former Kaizer Chiefs star midfielder Kgaogelo Sekgotha is back on his feet and raring to kick the ball again in the professional ranks.

The 30-year-old Seshego-born midfield maestro has completed a remarkable turnaround in his career after Betway Premiership side Siwelele officially announced that they have secured his signature, marking his return to top-flight football.

Sekgotha, whose promising career was once threatened by substance abuse, has also publicly sought forgiveness from his supporters, family and friends for the disappointment caused during his struggles off the field.
The former Amakhosi midfielder admitted that his personal battles nearly derailed his career, but says he has taken full responsibility for his actions and is determined to rebuild both his life and football journey.
“I want to sincerely apologise to my supporters, my family and my friends. I let you down when I allowed myself to be consumed by substance abuse. It was the darkest chapter of my life, but I am grateful for the second chance I have been given,” said Sekgotha.

He revealed that he voluntarily booked himself into the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre, where he underwent an intensive recovery programme. Following months of therapy, counselling and support, he was officially declared clean and ready to resume his professional career.
“I am clean, stronger and mentally prepared. Football has always been my passion, and I want to honour the game and everyone who stood by me during my struggles,” he added.
The rehabilitation centre also confirmed his recovery, praising his discipline and commitment throughout the programme.
“Kgaogelo showed dedication and a genuine desire to change. He is proof that with the right support and determination, recovery is possible,” said a spokesperson for the centre.

Now focused on regaining full match fitness, Sekgotha is eager to make a meaningful contribution at Siwelele, while using his journey as a message of hope to others facing similar challenges.
“This is a new chapter for me. I want to inspire others who might be going through the same struggles. If I can rise again, so can they,” he concluded.
