MEC Mathye condemns violence against law enforcement officers during “Safer Back to School Operation”

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has concluded a successful Safer Back to School operation at Rivoningo Education Centre. The operation yielded significant results, with 11 summons issued and 8 vehicles impounded for various offences.

These vehicles, including Quantum’s, Seven Seaters, and Bakkies, were found to be non-compliant with safety regulations, posing a risk to learners and other road users. One additional vehicle was detained for transporting learners on behalf of other non-compliant minibuses.

“We are appalled by the actions of one operator who chose to assault a law enforcement officer and attempt to defeat the ends of justice. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mr. Mathye.

The operator has been arrested and will face charges accordingly.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our roads are safe, especially around schools. We urge all road users to comply with traffic laws and regulations to protect our children,” added MEC Mathye.

The department appeals to parents and guardians to report any concerns about learner transportation to the relevant authorities.
