Lekompo artist Lehlogonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, will remain behind bars after he was denied bail once again by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 18 February.
The matter has been postponed to allow for its transfer to the regional court, where a new trial date will be set.
Fourth Month in Custody
The postponement means the 30-year-old musician has now spent nearly four months in custody following his arrest on October 25, last year. He has been denied bail on multiple occasions since then.
Personal and Financial Impact
Shebeshxt’s continued detention has had a significant impact both personally and professionally:
He has been unable to spend time with his wife, Kholo, and their newborn child.
The artist reportedly lost out on millions of rands in bookings during the peak festive season (November and December), a period when he was considered one of the most booked performers.
Career Momentum Interrupted
His hit collaboration “Rata Laka”, which helped usher in 2026 for listeners of SABC Limpopo’s Thobela FM, had positioned him strongly in the local music scene. However, his legal troubles have temporarily stalled that momentum.
The case will now proceed in the regional court, where further developments are expected once a trial date is confirmed.
Shebeshxt was arrested in October 2025 in Limpopo in connection with serious criminal charges.
According to reports at the time of his arrest, he was charged with:
Attempted murder
Malicious damage to property
Discharging a firearm in a public place
The charges reportedly stem from an incident in which a firearm was allegedly discharged during a confrontation, leading to damage and injury.
Since his arrest, he has appeared multiple times at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court, where he has been denied bail on several occasions. The matter is now being transferred to the regional court for trial.
