Arthur Sales and Teboho Sibiya handed Mamelodi Sundowns a deserved 2–0 victory over Orbit College in their first Betway Premiership match of the 2026 calendar, played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday.
The Brazilians’ victory saw Sundowns reclaim top spot on the league table with 29 points, moving one point clear of Orlando Pirates, who went into the festive break leading the standings on 28 points. The Sea Robbers, however, have played two fewer matches, with 12 outings compared to Sundowns’ 14.
Back to the match, Sundowns showed their intent from the early stages and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when Arthur Sales opened the scoring for the defending champions. The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and sealed the result in the 65th minute through young midfielder Teboho Sibiya, who calmly slotted home the second goal. Sibiya’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match accolade.
The Betway Premiership action continues on Tuesday, 20 January, with fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs welcoming Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium. Chiefs claimed a narrow 1–0 victory in the reverse fixture played in KwaZulu-Natal earlier this season.
In another fixture scheduled for the same evening, third-placed Sekhukhune United will be aiming to maintain their position on the log when they face Stellenbosch FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Both matches are set to kick off at 7:30pm.
